The lake was created as a reservoir and services water needs for the lower Trinity River Basin and the Houston/Galveston metropolitan area. The Livingston Dam, constructed across the Trinity River is approximately 2.5 miles in length and has a concrete spillway designed and constructed to pass flows of three times the maximum recorded flow of the river at this site.
